Our aquariums have a lot of electronic equipment, such as pumps, heaters, etc. Even in freshwater aquariums, this equipment can present electrical and insulation problems, but in saltwater aquariums this can quickly become a more serious problem due to the corrosive potential of saltwater.
Fortunately, most aquarium equipment is of excellent quality in terms of insulation and manufacturing. However, a failure of sealing and electrical insulation can occur, this is called "energy leakage" or "voltage leakage". This voltage leakage, even in small amounts, can cause several problems.
Below are some consequences directly or indirectly related to electrical voltage leakage:
- Head and Lateral Line Erosion: https://www.thesprucepets.com/head-and-lateral-line-erosion-disease-2924961
- Sudden Death: Sometimes aquarists have tested for voltage leaks in their tanks after experiencing sudden, unexplained losses of fish and discovered that a faulty appliance in their tank was the cause.
- Unusual Behavior: When persistent strange behavior, such as a rapid, irregular swimming pattern or frequent shaking of tank inhabitants, is observed, many aquarists have found that the cause is a stray voltage. Fish have sensors on their bodies, such as along the lateral line and in their noses, that are sensitive to changes in electricity in the water around them. When these sensors receive a continuous supply of abnormally high electricity, their systems go haywire.
- Incorrect sensing: Many aquariums use electrodes and probes for continuous measurement of water parameters, such as: pH, ORP, Salinity and Oxygen. These sensors can be affected depending on the type and intensity of the voltage leak.
How to solve:
The most important thing is to identify the equipment that is causing the voltage leak.
The use of grounding electrodes helps to block the effects on the aquarium in the event of a voltage leak, but should be seen as a protective measure and not a solution.
Grounding electrode:
Our product is designed in 3D and uses a 99.9% carbon electrode. This results in great durability and a material immune to corrosion. It is important that your electrical installation is grounded for it to function properly.
ATTENTION: Never use the same grounding system in your home as the grounding system for your AQUARIUM. We recommend that you use an independent grounding system for your AQUARIUM. This will prevent your AQUARIUM from indirectly receiving waste from this discharge if any of your home's equipment fails.
